The popular
College Sorority Information Forum will take place
Wednesday, February 29, 7 p.m., at the Redmond Library in Meeting Rooms 1&2. The library address is 15990 NE 85th St., Redmond.
This is a don’t-miss event for high school girls and their parents who want to learn about college sorority membership. The forum is sponsored by Overlake Alumnae Panhellenic. University of Washington sorority members, and alumnae from the UW and other universities are the event’s featured speakers. Topics include:
- membership recruitment process
- sorority life on campus
- lifelong benefits of sorority membership
Questions are encouraged. Applications for Overlake Alumnae Panhellenic scholarships and registration forms for the UW Greek Preview will be available at the forum. The event is free and registration is not required. Scholarship and Grant Opportunities for College-Bound StudentsBellevue PTSA ScholarshipsThe Bellevue PTSA Council offers two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from each of Bellevue's five high schools.
Michael Riley Scholarship ($1,000): The Michael Riley Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by local PTAs. It is named in honor of Bellevue’s former superintendent. Winners are chosen based on excellence both in academics and demonstrated community leadership. Criteria: Awarded to a well-rounded student with outstanding academic credentials. Requires application, personal essay, official transcript and 3 letters of recommendation.
Alice Hurd Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): The Alice Hurd Memorial Scholarship is funded by a trust established by the Hurd Family to honor their wife and mother. Alice Hurd was a tireless and enthusiastic volunteer in PTA and an outstanding child advocate. In recognition of her volunteer spirit, applicants must demonstrate outstanding community service of at least 500 hours. Requires application, essay on “Citizenship”, official transcript and 3 letters of recommendation (one of the recommendation letters MUST be from a Community Service Supervisor.
The Riley and Hurd scholarships are awarded to one graduating senior from each of the five Bellevue high schools.
Bellevue Parks Scholarship ($1,000): The Bellevue PTSA Council will award $1,000 to one Bellevue School District 2012 graduate. This scholarship is funded by a contribution from ‘Bellevue Parks Yes!’ in honor of PTSA’s contribution to passing the Bellevue Parks Levy. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a passion for the outdoors and can express the value that Bellevue’s outstanding parks and programs contribute to the quality of life in this city. The recipient will have a focus on the environment, earth sciences or recreation leadership. The recipient will be a graduating senior who plans to continue their education at an accredited college, university, technical or trade school.
The Bellevue Parks scholarship, also $1,000, will be awarded to one graduating senior from a Bellevue high school.
The application deadline for the Riley, Hurd and Bellevue Parks scholarships is March 24th by 6:00 PM.
Winners and their parents will be invited to the BSD PTSA annual Spring Celebration recognizing the winners from each district high school.

Bellevue LifeSpring Educational Grants are for seniors with financial need who plan to study at a public Washington state college or university.
The application is due by April 16, 2012 and can be found on the website at

The
College Success Foundation’s Leadership 1000 Scholarship application is now available! Information about the scholarship and eligibility guidelines are listed on the
CSF website.
The deadline for students to submit the online application is Friday, March 23, 2012 at 5PM. Transcripts and letters of recommendation must also be postmarked by March 23, 2012.
The Leadership 1000 Scholarship is open to all students across the state who will be enrolling in college as freshman, sophomores or juniors in the fall of 2012, and who meet the eligibility criteria listed on our
website. Generally students who attend a community or technical college are not eligible for the Leadership 1000 Scholarship. However, this year, students who attend community or technical colleges may be eligible if they meet the City of Destiny and/or the Tacoma Public Utilities criteria.
